Girgenti Palace
Situated near the village of Siġġiewi, in the heart of the Maltese countryside, Girgenti Palace is a delightful melange of architectural splendour and rustic charm. Dating back 400 years, it was originally used as a countryside lodge by Malta’s inquisitors, and today serves as the President's Summer residence.

Built by Inquisitor Onorto Visconti in 1651, the palace was used as a Summer retreat for Visconti and his successors until the Inquisition’s abolition in 1798.

With a setting as delightful as the building itself, the Palace boasts spectacular views of the surrounding woodland, naturally irrigated by a nearby spring. Though simpler in style than many palazzos of the time, with few decorative elements, it is certainly every bit as charming. And with a plain yet eye-catching facade, its own tiny chapel, and truly stunning gardens, the palace is a paragon of untainted rustic beauty.

A highlight of any day out in the country, this rural gem is well worth exploring!
